All of the Stars Who Skipped the 2019 Grammys — and Why They Didn't Show

Grande confirmed she would not be at the Grammys because of a dispute between producer Ken Ehrlich and her team. She did so through a string of tweets that revealed that she felt creatively “stifled” and offered up three songs to perform — but no dice. Despite the drama, Grande won best pop vocal album for Sweetener.

Swift was another artist whose album got snubbed this year. Reputation was nominated for best pop vocal album but lost to Ariana Grande’s Sweetener. Regardless, Swift is too busy in London filming the upcoming adaptation of the musical Cats and supporting her actor boyfriend Joe Alwyn at the BAFTAs.

The Carters made the rounds at the annual Roc Nation Brunch ahead of the Grammys but made it clear on their song 2018 single “Apesh-t” that they would not be attending the show. JAY-Z raps, “Tell the Grammys f-ck that 0-for-8 sh-t/ Have you ever seen the crowd goin’ apesh-t?” The rapper was referring to being nominated eight times for his 4:44 album in 2018 and not winning in any of his categories.

This year, the couple is nominated for best urban contemporary album for their joint album Everything Is Love and if they win, it’ll be their first Grammy win as a couple.

The bad gal herself has been so focused on her Fenty Beauty and SAVAGE X FENTY lines that music has taken a back seat since she released Anti three years ago. Rihanna did confirm that her next album will come out in 2019, so the singer can hopefully add to her nine Grammys at home at next year’s award show.

Although West has one Grammy nomination this year for producer of the year, non-classical, the rapper’s latest album ye received none. Considering the fact that he’s already won 21 Grammys, we’re sure Kim is fine that they’re skipping this year.

After their 2019 Super Bowl halftime show performance, the band opted out of this year’s show, according to Variety. However, the group is nominated for best pop duo/group performance for “Girls Like You” — perhaps a win will silence their Super Bowl performance critics.

Bieber has taken a break from music since he canceled the last 14 shows of his Purpose tour back in 2017, and has been focusing on newlywed life with wife Hailey. The singer won his first Grammy for “Where Are Ü Now” in 2015 and we’re sure that won’t be the last.

Clarkson took to Twitter to announce why she would be missing the Grammys this year. “I’m out touring so couldn’t make #Grammys2019 tonight BUT couldn’t b more appreciative 4 the nomination & couldn’t be more excited 4 everyone there!,” she wrote. “2 all the artists nominated & not nominated, win or lose, feel blessed that u get to do what u do 4 a living!”

The singer was nominated for best pop vocal album for Meaning of Life but lost to Ariana Grande’s Sweetener.

Teigen tweeted a photo of a sleeping Legend with a punny message to his fans: “no Grammys for us today. john got and EGOT and egot lazy.”

The singer is up for best musical theater album for Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert and hopefully he’ll be awake to see if he loses or wins.

The singer tweeted that it was “pretty rad” that she lost her 20th Grammy nomination but she felt “honored” to be included. She skipped the Grammys to be on mommy duty. “Now to get this sick baby in the bathtub,” she wrote in a tweet. “Congrats to all the nominees! Have fun tonight.”

Lovato scored her second Grammy nomination ever for her best pop duo/group performance with Christina Aguilera for “Fall in Line,” but lost to Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper for their performance of “Shallow.”

The singer did not make it to the show, most likely because of her recent return home from rehab.

First-time Grammy nominee and winner Cooper won best pop duo/group performances with Lady Gaga for “Shallow” and was nominated for record of the year for the hit song, as well. Instead of the Grammys, the actor was at the BAFTAs in London, where he was nominated five times for his film A Star Is Born.

Minaj’s album Queen was completely overlooked this year. In the past, she’s been nominated 10 times but has never won.
