Devastated Zara had been counting down the days until their romantic getaway until Adam's late-night partying with Instagram model Brittany Archer.
The Love Island bad boy had planned to whisk his girlfriend of seven months away next week before The Sun Online's exclusive about their break up.
Now instead of sunning themselves on the white sands of the stunning island, the couple will remain in the UK.
An insider told us: "They were both so excited to jet off to the Maldives next week for some quality time together.
"Things have been difficult for them as a couple lately and they thought time away would do them the world of good.
"It was going to be an incredible holiday on one of the most romantic islands on earth, it must have cost Adam thousands.
"But sadly they called it day before flying out there after they realised it was the end of the road for them as a couple.
"They've always loved travelling together, so Zara is devastated about the whole situation."
Just weeks ago, the former couple returned from Dubai after jetting out for the opening of The Palm Wavehouse.
And at the end of last year they spent time out in the Bahamas after an amazing time in Miami, sunning themselves on the beach.
But their string of exotic holidays together has come to an end after it was revealed the couple called it quits.
Sources say a series of explosive rows pushed the couple over the edge.
Things got tense over 21-year-old Adam’s wild partying with Jack Fincham, Sam Bird and model Brittany.
They had also suffered "ups and downs" since moving in together, with Adam still choosing to spend half his time back home in Newcastle.
When they did spend time together at their London apartment, they were often in separate beds, which Zara laughed off as an "escape from Adam's snoring".
But despite crisis talks, the pair were unable to work through their problems.
Confirming our story, Zara posted a statement on her Instagram story. She said: "I am heartbroken to announce that Adam and I have parted ways.
"I love him very much and will always have a special place in my heart for him and our time spent together.
"I have tried so hard to be the best person I can possibly be and to make it work.
"Sometimes in life, you just aren't enough for someone; no matter what do for them or how much you try to me. For everyone asking if I'm OK, I don't know that I am.
"But I know that soon I will be. I will be strong and prove to myself that I can get through this."
