Winds of Winter: George RR Martin teases more Ironborn material in cryptic ASOIAF update?

During the pandemic, George RR Martin has been squirrelled away in a secluded mountain cabin to finish writing The Winds of Winter. The A Song of Ice and Fire book has been a long time coming but his latest blog post has given fans much hope that the 71-year-old is nearing completion. In his latest update, Martin wrote: “I am still up in the mountains, doing the social distancing rag, and writing WINDS OF WINTER.”

Martin reassured fans: “ I have good days and bad days, but I am making progress.

“The only thing I am writing myself is THE WINDS OF WINTER, as I have said many times…”

ASOIAF expert BryndenBFish commented: “Another WINDS update from GRRM!

“Also, that goddamn Greyjoy sigil (remember that from Alas, Valyria? Drove you all, not me, crazy).”

He added: “Anyways, I bet GRRM is writing Ironborn WINDS material.”

Fans will know the Ironborn as the natives of the Iron Islands off the west coast of Westeros.

The independent seafaring people are ruled by House Greyjoy, as mentioned.

With this in mind, perhaps fans will be seeing more focus on Yara and Theon in The Winds of Winter.

Also on Martin’s blog update, the ASOIAF expert added: “He also mentions later on that ‘The only thing I am writing myself is THE WINDS OF WINTER, as I have said many times…’

“In other words, get the f*** out of my mentions with your ‘He won’t finish it lol. I’ve given up.’

“‘He’s only working hard in WILD CARDS. Time to scratch my a**.’”

By the sounds of it, this expert has a lot of confidence in Martin to finish The Winds of Winter.
