American Music Awards 2018 best dressed stars including Cardi B and Taylor Swift

Stars of the music world flocked to Downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday for the annual American Music Awards.

A who’s who of artists and bands posed on the red carpet in a selection of outfits that ranged from simple, slinky numbers to bold, custom-made creations.

And it was Bad Blood singer Taylor Swift who led this year’s glamour in a sexy silver, thigh-skimming Balmain dress and matching thigh-high boots.

After dazzling on the red carpet, the star opened the annual awards bash with her first show performance in nearly three years.

Actress Amber Heard looked elegant in a gorgeous bronze gown that was nipped in at the waist with a thin black belt and featured a deep plunge and a daring slit in the skirt.

Cardi B, who walked away with the favourite rap artist prize, pulled out all of the stops in her flower print dress and headpiece.

Superstar Jennifer Lopez, 49, slayed the red carpet in her hot pink Georges Chakra Couture halter gown with sexy thigh-high slit and cut-out panels on either side.

While former Gossip Girl actress Leighton Meester, who is rarely seen on the red carpet, wore a monochrome floor-skiming gown that perfectly flattered her frame. She teamed the classic look with dark lipstick and a black clutch.

Vanessa Hudgens was also turning heads in her slinky pale pink floor-length dress that perfectly complimented her svelte fram.

And it wasn’t just the ladies who pulled it out of the bag with their red carpet looks. Canadian singer Shawn Mendes looked as handsome as ever in his black suit and print shirt.

The Chainsmokers also cut a dapper figure in their suits, with Alex Pall opting for plaid and Andrew Taggart rocking a marble-inspired blue and black blazer, black trousers and navy blue suede shoes.

On the night, British star Dua Lipa was up against Cardi B, Camila Cabello, Khalid and the late rapper XXXTentacion for new artist.

Performers included Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey.
