Ben Shephard pays sweet tribute to co-host Kate Garraway as he leaves Good Morning Britain

Ben Shephard has taken a break from Good Morning Britain to concentrate on his show, Tipping Point, as it begins filming again following lockdown.

Ben has been hosting ITV breakfast show GMB for three of the five days of the week as regular hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid are on a break.

Kate Garraway returned to GMB last month to present with Ben, following her husband Derek Draper's health battle with coronavirus.

As he went on his break from the show, Ben, 45, posted a lovely tribute to Kate, 53, on his Instagram alongside a smiling picture of the pair.

He wrote: “Ahh there’s nothing quite like working with @kategarraway.

“Have loved having her back in the studio – although still not sure about her “a warm Shephard oozing all over you” comment.

“Thank you for all your messages, despite Kate trying to get us both sacked. I’m not leaving @gmb (sorry!) just off to catch up with series 11 of @itvtippingpoint which was put on hold because of Covid.

“Anyway will be back with Kate in the GMB studio in September for more of the same!!"

Many of Ben’s followers commented to say how much they love seeing him and Kate on their screens each morning.

One person said: “Just love you two together. So professional and naughty at the same time.”

Another wrote: “You two are a great team … you make me feel in a great mood when watching you both. Shame your not on there everyday.”

And a third commented: “I wish you two could be on our screens everyday. Your down to earth and very funny. Love the banter between you both. Stay well and safe.”

On Wednesday’s GMB, Kate confirmed that it was Ben’s last day on the breakfast show as she told viewers: "This is Ben's last day! You're going having a bit of time off, aren't you?"

Ben explained that he wouldn’t be on holiday but in fact, filming Tipping Point as the show prepares to come back following lockdown.

He responded: "We're about to hit peak Tipping Point! Tipping Point series 11 and we're all back in the studio, back socially distanced.

"I think I might do it with Andi [Peters] because he's doing Lorraine in a couple of weeks. But the set's had to change in order to get everybody up and running.

"I'm not going to be here but I'm going to be working, Kate Garraway! I know you think I've got my feet up and trotters up down in the south of France!"
