Caitlyn Jenner reveals she made the decision to come out as transgender once she had raised her family – and it’s ‘the best thing she ever did’

Caitlyn Jenner has revealed that coming out as transgender allowed her to finally ‘breathe’ and be her authentic self. 

The former Olympic athlete, who completed her transition in 2015, feels a weight was lifted off her shoulders. 

‘I’ve been able to live my life authentically for the last nearly seven years now. It has been the best thing I ever did,’ the 72-year-old told The Daily Telegraph on Sunday.

‘When you finally come out, it feels like you don’t have any more secrets like somebody has lifted 1000 pounds off your shoulders and you start breathing,’ the reality star added. 

Caitlyn came out as a trans woman in April 2015 while appearing on Diane Sawyer, and underwent sex affirmation surgery in January 2017. 

She tells the publication that she had achieved all she could as a parent at the time of her transition.

Caitlyn has six biological children – Burt Jenner, 43, Cassandra Marino, 41, Brandon Jenner, 40, Brody Jenner, 38, Kendall Jenner, 25 and Kylie Jenner, 24. 

As well as three step-children, Kim Kardashian, 41, Kourtney Kardashian, 42, and Khloe Kardashian, 37. 

‘People become more accepting and it just got to the point in my life at the age of 65, I had raised all my children, had done everything I could,’ she says.

‘People become more accepting and it just got to the point in my life at the age of 65, I had raised all my children, had done everything I could,’ she says. ‘It was down to me and I made the decision to do this and maybe I can make a difference’

Caitlyn turned 72 years old on Thursday, October 28.

On Friday, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star expressed her gratitude to her family after they helped her celebrate her birthday. 

Earlier on Thursday, Kim wished Caitlyn a happy birthday via her Instagram stories.

The reality star posted a snap of the duo with a sweet caption that read: ‘Happy birthday @CaitlynJenner. I love you so much and can’t wait to celebrate you.’ 

Caitlyn will next be seen in upcoming appearance on Australian reality show, Big Brother VIP. 

She is also taking part in a political campaign in the hopes of becoming the next governor of California.
