Gladiator star Cobra whose real name is Micahel Willson, revealed in a candid interview he was taken to a Kent hospital three weeks ago after he fell seriously ill. The 55-year-old was taken into care after he suffered pneumonia in both lungs and the chest condition pleurisy. The sports entertainer also suffered a massive rupture in his shoulder and can’t raise him arm, according to The Sun. He told the publication: “I’m only half a Gladiator now. It’s been touch and go. I don’t feel like I’m kicking the bucket at the minute, but it will only take another cold or cough and I’m in trouble.
“I’m isolated in my own ward. It goes to show – you never know what’s round the corner.”
He was also hospitalised before Christmas with severe acute pancreatitis and now needs two new hips.
Acute pancreatitis is a condition where the pancreas becomes inflamed (swollen) over a short period of time, according to the NHS.
Michael explained he has pushed his body to the limits with his workouts over the years.
He said: “I pushed the limit – I would run ten miles before I’d start my workouts.”
He admitted he is now unable to lift his right arm and the bicep is “completely detached” from his arm.
The athlete said: “There’s no muscles left on the shoulder.
“The bicep is completely detached on the right arm and on the left arm I’ve got a massive rupture in the bicep.”
The Gladiator found fame alongside Michael Van Wijk (Wolf), Kim Bets (Lightning) and Diane Youdale (Jet) on the hit 90s show.
Michael starred as Cobra on the ITV series between 1992 to 2000.
The show was a massive hit with audiences and was watched by 14 million people.
Since the programme ended in the UK, Michael competed against South Africa in the Springbok Challenge.
He recently spoke out about his friends thinking he “still lives in the past”.
Speaking to the BBC, he divulged: “My friends keep telling me I should stop living in the past, let the Gladiator thing go, but I can’t.
“I keep looking at myself on the Gladiator magazines and albums.”
“I once was on the front of a cereal packet. I’ve even had my own action figure,” he added.
