Gogglebox’s Lee DM’d by Eurovision’s Bucks Fizz star Cheryl after dig on show

Gogglebox star Lee Riley found himself in hot water after comments he made about Eurovision icon and Bucks Fizz star Cheryl Baker, which didn’t go down too well with the singer.

The TV critic, who has been a staple of our Friday nights since joining the show in 2014 alongside best mate Jenny, recently revealed that Cheryl had slid into his DM’s after he made a few brutal digs at the pop icon while on the show.

While watching the Eurovision 1981 winners perform on ITV’s This Morning, both Lee and Jenny had been tickled by the performance when hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes were spotted clapping along animatedly to the live performance.

Jenny said: “Look at him and her, they’re loving it!”

Lee added: “[They’re] thinking 'get this s*** off!'”

Not one to let the comments lie, Cheryl soon messaged the Channel 4 star to call him out over the hurtful comments.

Recalling the incident while completing press for this year’s BAFTA Television Awards, which saw Googlebox scoop the award for best reality and constructed factual programme, Lee said: “I think I said something about Bucks Fizz once, and she did message me. Cheryl Baker. And I did say that I was only jesting.”

“I said, 'You are a good singer!'”

It isn’t the only celebrity Lee fears he may have offended, with the reality star admitting that he had “ducked and dived” from stars at this year’s ceremony just in case they wanted to confront him over any previous digs he’d made on the show.

When asked who they were looking forward to running into, Lee and his castmate Mica Ven both confessed that they didn’t want to bump into anyone they had “slagged off” on the show, reports the Metro.

Lee said: “I have ducked and dived a few times.”

The star also went on to hilariously admit that he’d struggled with the length of the ceremony this year, and at one or two points was struggling to stay awake.

“It was brilliant, but long. Really long,” said Lee. “I think I’ve nodded off twice.”

Lee appeared at this year’s show without his partner in crime, best mate Jenny as she was currently recovering in hospital following surgery.

“She was supposed to be here but she had to have a minor operation and it came this week, so she couldn’t turn it down,” he said.

“So she’s still in hospital. She’s gonna be watching, she will be watching this in a hospital bed.”
