Denise Welch, 63, shared the news earlier today that her father Vin Welch had died. Addressing the sad news on social media, the star thanked fans for their support as she called the past 18 months “cruel”.

Sharing an image with her dad on the red carpet in drag, Denise thanked people for their support.

She wrote: “Dad/Grampa/Vin/Raquel he was all of these!!

“This last 18 months have been so divisive and the world has become a cruel sometimes terrifying place.(sic)

“At times I thought I’d lost my faith in humanity.

“But today, with my heart in pieces, seeing the outpouring of love for dad and my family my faith is restored.”

She went on to add how the messages she had received had brought her comfort.

Denise continued: “Thank you so very much for your wonderful messages that we have all read together and it’s given us so much comfort @debbiededes @trumanblack @healytymd @alexdedes @willdedes @olive.dede @lincolntownley.

“‘Where there is deep grief, there was deep love.’”

Denise confirmed her father’s death earlier today in view of her 282,000 followers.

She shared how he had died despite having a “miraculous recovery” from major surgery.

Sharing a picture of her holding her dad’s hand, she wrote: “The words I’ve dreaded saying all of my life.

“Last night at 11pm, we lost our dad, the life force that was Vin Welch.

“After making a miraculous recovery recently from major surgeries, pneumonia plus his existing pulmonary fibrosis was more than even he could take.”

Vin was a drag queen and actor known for appearing in Coronation Street, Harrigan and Emmerdale.

Among those sharing tributes to the late star was GB News presenter Rachel Sweeney who shared a story of him.

She wrote on Twitter: “When I was 20, I found Vin’s number in an entertainment directory.

“I called him and asked for help with my final year documentary.

“Within an hour he had @TheRealTimHealy on the phone to me and we had filming booked in.

“I’ll never forget that kindness @RealDeniseWelch.”

Denise responded to the message with a series of love hearts on her Twitter page.
