John Legend supports local New Jersey fire department

John Legend made a surprise appearance in New Jersey Monday – and made a donation to a local fire department that makes him look more like “Ordinary People” than one of Hollywood’s most successful singer-songwriters.

The soulful crooner slipped a $20 bill to two smoke eaters who were selling tickets for a fundraiser breakfast outside a 7-Eleven in Wood-Ridge, according to the Pascack Valley Daily Voice.

Legend, who’s married to Sports Illustrated model-turned-cookbook author Chrissy Teigen, popped into the Hackensack Avenue convenience store, came out with the cash and handed it over before driving off in his car, the firefighters said.

They speculated he may have been on his way to Teterboro Airport about a mile away.

The power couple has been spotted in Bergen County before. Last year, they were seen at a Rita’s Italian Ice in Glen Rock.

Last month, Legend became one of just 15 people — and the first African-American man ever — to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award.
