Strictly Come Dancing favourite Graziano Di Prima has paid a gushing tribute to former partner Kym Marsh for supporting him through a low period on the BBC show last year.
The Italian dancer has told how he broke down in tears on the Waterloo Road actress as he struggled with facing months apart from his wife, professional dancer Giada Lini.
The couple, who tied the knot in a stunning Sicilian ceremony in Graziano’s hometown last July, barely saw each other after their big day due to his gruelling Strictly schedule while she was competing on the Italian version of Strictly, Dancing With The Stars.
Graziano said: “It was impossible not to notice that I was missing her and I had a moment with Kym in the first week. She was talking about her husband [Scott Ratcliff], who is in the army, and she was saying how much she missed him and I started talking about Giada and I started to cry.
“I couldn’t handle it. She was like, ‘It’s OK, have some water’. Now we call each other almost every day. She and her family were such a help to me.”
During their partnership on the show, Graziano and Kym became more like family than dance partners.
Kym previously said: "He's very quickly become like a little brother to me. Graziano is from a big family himself and is very family-orientated so it was important for us to build a friendship and I wanted to integrate him into the family.”
Opening up further about Strictly's demands, Graziano said: “It was one of the hardest years for us. Shows like Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing With The Stars literally take over our whole lives from the moment you open your eyes until you go to sleep just thinking about the choreography, the concept and the celebrity.”
The couple have just returned from their long-awaited honeymoon in the Maldives. The romantic trip of a lifetime was their first proper holiday together, as they have only ever travelled the world touring as dancers since falling in love nine years ago.
Arriving at their luxury Intercontinental Maldives villa by seaplane, the couple were given the VIP treatment. After being greeted by bongos and Champagne, they were shown to their honeymoon suite with a pool leading straight to the Indian Ocean.
Giada said: “We felt so lucky to be there because after we got married last year we had just four days together before we were back working on the Here Come The Boys tour then Graziano was doing Strictly and I was in Italy doing Dancing With The Stars,” says Giada. “This was our first proper vacation ever and it was perfect."
