Liverpool face Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday night knowing that victory over the Serbian champions will get their Champions League campaign back on track.
After the ecstasy of defeating Paris Saint-Germain in their opening fixture, Jurgen Klopp’s men were second best to Napoli last time out.
But if they can claim back-to-back wins over Red Star, then the Reds will take charge of the group.
That starts at Anfield, with Klopp looking for an improvement on recent displays; Liverpool haven’t scored more than once in any of their last five games, but tonight provides the perfect opportunity for Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino to fill their boots.
Summer signing Fabinho is set to start in midfield, with both Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson absent due to injury.
The Brazilian international has only started in the League Cup thus far, but impressed in a weekend cameo at Huddersfield .
“We already made the decision he is the right player, yes — when we signed him. He has the qualities, all the qualities,” said Klopp. “Hard challenges. Good offensively, defensively. Quick. Good shooter. Fantastic set-pieces. Good header… all these things. Good strategically too, in the right moment.
“He’s just a fantastic addition and can improve us from a specific moment on.”
