Louise Redknapp, 44, has released her first single titled Stretch after a 16 year hiatus from the music industry and she’s now spilled the details on her new music video. The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant appeared on BBC Radio 2 with Fearne Cotton earlier this week, where she divulged she shouldn’t be “scared to be sexy”. Speaking ahead of the debut of her new music video tomorrow, she said: “I wanted to do something that was really empowering. “I really believe that as a 44-year-old woman with two children I should be allowed to dance around and have fun and not be scared to be a bit sexy.
“Some people may not think I look sexy in it, but you know.”
Radio DJ Fearne interjected: “But you do!”
She chuckled: “That comes from a really good place of I needed that and I think a lot of women get to that stage when they’ve had kids.”
Louise described the music video as “playing dress up” because she is usually doing the school run in casual clothing.
She spilled: “It was kind of like playing dress up for the day. You know what it’s like, you get up in the morning, you put your trackies on.
“I do the football run, the school run, go to work and so yes, it was like dress up for the day. It was great fun and I loved it.”
Speaking about her comeback to the music industry, the singer said she “loved” being back.
“It felt like I hadn’t been away! I felt comfortable, five albums later it’s got to be in there somewhere,” the mother-of-two divulged.
“I loved it, it was such a nice process and actually it was what I really needed.”
The star has been keeping busy as she made a return to the stage as the lead in Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 The Musical this week.
She was previously forced to postpone her starring role in the show after suffering a fall.
In January, she revealed she would be taking time to recover from a fractured wrist, also needing 10 stitches for a cut on her chin, on the advice of her doctors.
The actress will be playing Violet in the show, which is based on the 1980 movie of the same name and features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, 73.
Meanwhile, Louise who shares two sons, Charley, 14, and Beau, nine, with ex-husband and football pundit Jamie Redknapp, 45, recently admitted the pair are “still friends”.
During an interview with Jamie Theakston, 48, and Lucy Horobin, 39, on Heart Radio, she said: “He’s by best friend.
“It’s been really tough but things happen.”
“I saw him yesterday and it was all good,” she said last month. “We had school meetings and stuff, like you do, so all good.”
