As Melania Trump embarked on a four-country tour of Africa for her first solo trip this week, there was much talk around what she was wearing rather than her mission.
While FLOTUS visited Ghana, Malawi, Kenya, and Egypt to focus on building programs for children in these developing countries, her wardrobe’s stereotypical safari vibes was the center of discussion on the internet. The white pith hat she wore for safari tour of Kenya certainly raised a few eyebrows, as the helmet is a common symbol for colonialism.
And, on Saturday, Trump spurred even more social media memes with her latest Out of Africa-inspired outfit: a cream suit with a white button-up underneath, a black tie, matching fedora, and coordinating Chanel flats.

Melania’s version of casual drummed up comparisons to many pop culture icons, including Michael Jackson in “Smooth Criminal,” Dr. René Belloq of Indiana Jones, and, while maybe a stretch — Dr. Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs.
During a short unscripted interview with the press, Trump told reporters, “focus on what I do, not what I wear,” but people on the internet couldn’t help themselves. See their funniest reactions below.
