Jose Mourinho has revealed Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay were "sad and scared" on the pitch during Manchester United’s comeback win over Newcastle .
United rallied from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Old Trafford and give their under-fire boss something to smile about after a testing week.
But they got off to the worst possible start when Kenedy and Yoshinori Muto fired the Magpies into an early two-goal lead.
McTominay was switched to centre-half after 19 minutes as Eric Bailly was replaced by Juan Mata, but was hooked at the break.
Rashford, who missed two glaring opportunities, was taken off with 20 minutes to go, and United went on to score three goals and take the victory.
And after the game, Mourinho singled out the duo as struggling during the match.
"Marcus Rashford was sad on the pitch, Scott McTominay was scared on the pitch. Even older players commit mistakes that are not normal.
"At half-time we had a good conversation. We didn’t promise that we would win the match.
"We promised we would give absolutely everything without any fear, without any pressure, just the pressure of giving everything and of course they gave everything."
