Nicola Coughlan first rose to fame for her role as Clare Devlin in the Channel 4 series Derry Girls. The actress has since captured the nation’s hearts in Netflix period drama Bridgerton as the daughter of Lord and Lady Featherington, Penelope. But how old is the Bridgerton star?
How old is Nicola Coughlan?
The actress was born on January 9, 1987, which makes Nicola 34-years-old.
Bridgerton is set in the Regency era and follows young women from the age of 16 who enter society during the debutants season.
Nicola’s character, Penelope is said to be 17-years-old when she enters society alongside her sisters Philippa and Prudence.

Many fans of the actress have since taken to social media to compliment her youthful looks since the release of Bridgerton to Netflix.
One fan wrote: “As if Nicola Coughlan aka Penelope is 34 years of age, girl has been drinking from the fountain of youth #bridgerton.”
Another wrote: “OMG I also just found out Nicola Coughlan is an 87-er and as Penelope is also playing a character the same age of Eloise. They do not look their ages.”
A third added: “I just found out that Nicola Coughlan is basically my age but looks 16 and it is MESSING with me. Like, how??? Witchcraft?”
The star celebrated her birthday last weekend and posted of her celebrations to her 754,000 followers on Instagram.
At the time she shared how she and her pals including Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness celebrated virtually on Zoom.
Posting some snaps from the video call she wrote: “My best pals made the best lockdown birthday ever and I love them so much.”
The star went on to talk of how she was the theme of the call with her friends dressing as the roles she has played over the years.

She continued: “They all dressed up as me in various incarnations, swipe through to see The Wee Lesbian as you’ve never seen her before.”
Nicola is also known for her youthful looks in her role on the popular sitcom Derry Girls.
On the show, she played Clare Devlin, who was a high school student at Our Lady Immaculate Girls’ School.
The actress has since spoken of how she related to her roles as Clare and Penelope and admitted she would find it difficult playing a teenager in modern times.
She explained to the Guardian: “It would be very different to play a teenager nowadays.
“The influence of social media means you’re aware that everything’s being watched.
“Whereas I grew up in a time before that, as did Clare and Penelope.”
