As a mother, it’s Nicole Kidman’s job to support her children no matter their lifestyles — even if that means being a parent of two out and proud Scientologists.
The Boy Erased actress opened up about her two adopted children with ex-husband Tom Cruise, a topic she rarely speaks about, in a new interview with Australia’s Who magazine on Thursday.

Being careful of her words, she explained:
“I’m very private about that. I have to protect all those relationships. I know 150 percent that I would give up my life for my children because it’s what my purpose is.”
The actress has had a strained relationship with her 25-year-old daughter Isabella and 23-year-old son Connor over the years. Both children, who lived with Cruise after the couple split in 2001, are still devout members of the Church — and still estranged from their mother.
Kidman did not attend Isabella’s wedding in 2015. According to Leah Remini’s tell-all book Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology, Isabella viewed her mother as a “Suppressive Person,” since she’s no longer a member of the Church, and would be told to disconnect from her.

Despite being erased from her children’s lives, the Big Little Lies star says she’ll always support them — but she still believes it’s “wrong” that the Church encourages the severing of their relationships with her. She continued:
“They are adults. They are able to make their own decisions. They have made choices to be Scientologists and, as a mother, it’s my job to love them. And I am an example of that tolerance and that’s what I believe — that no matter what your child does, the child has love and the child has to know there is available love and I’m open here. I think that’s so important because if that is taken away from a child, to sever that in any child, in any relationship, in any family — I believe it’s wrong. So that’s our job as a parent, to always offer unconditional love.”
We guess severed unconditional love is still unconditional love.
