For the seventh consecutive year, Sofia Vergara is the highest-paid actress on US television.
The Modern Family star leads this year’s ranking of the small screen’s top earners by Forbes magazine with an income of $42.5 million in 2017-18.
This is 73 percent more than what the second-ranked Kaley Cuoco has earned during the period.
Notably, Vergara has broken the traditional male domination in the acting industry as she is far ahead of the top-earning male actor in the US, “The Big Bang Theory”‘s Jim Parsons, who has $26.5million in his credit.
Vergara’s fortunes come not only from her salary for acting in the hit ABC comedy, but also from a number of endorsements and big licensing deals that include coffee maker SharkNinja Coffee and furniture chain Rooms To Go.
In contrast, 95 percent of money that Cuoco has earned came through her role on Big Bang Theory.
The Big Bang Theory and Modern Family actors make up 13 of the 20 top earners.
Couco and four male stars in the CBS sitcom took an average pay cut of $1 million per episode to give co-starring newcomers Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch pay rises.
As a result, both of them are now on the list of the 10 best-paid actresses for the first time, on $12 million each.
Ellen Pompeo ($23.5 million), who plays Meredith Grey for 15 seasons on “Grey’s Anatomy”, ranks third.
Rounding out the top five are Law & Order: SVU’s Mariska Hargitay ($13 million) and Modern Family’s Julie Bowen ($12.5 million).
Together, the world’s 10 highest-paid TV actresses earned a total of $168.5 million between June 1, 2017, and June 1, 2018. This is up from $156.5 million in the same period last year, and at the same time reducing the gap with men.
