Fans have vowed to “switch off” This Morning on Fridays after Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes “graciously” confirm there will be a “changing of the guard” from January.
Reposting identical statements to their Instagram accounts, Ruth and Eamonn addressed fans after ITV confirmed news of the hosting reshuffle.
In response, fans of the couple, who have been regulars on the show for 14 years, have vowed to “switch off” as Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary become the show’s new Friday hosts.

Both Ruth and Eamonn wrote: “It’s a changing of the guard on Fridays from January. We hope you make Alison and Dermot as welcome as you’ve made us over the years. Have a ball you two!
“It’s not goodbye from us, it’s simply au revoir until the next half term.”
Celebrity friends of the couple, who celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary this year, jumped at the chance to show their support.

Celebrity chef John Torode commented on Ruth’s post: “Gracious… so very gracious,” adding underneath Eamonn’s that he intends to see the pair before Christmas.
Although there is plenty of support for the new duo, fans of Ruth and Eamonn took to the comments disheartened and upset by the change with some vowing not to tune in on Fridays until the pair are back in the holidays.
One said: “I wouldn’t be as graceful as you Ruth. The decision is laughable and an insult to you and Eamonn. I will not be watching on Fridays without you two,” prompting a flurry of agreement.

Another wrote: “Switching off on Fridays until half term! Love you and Eamonn.”
Many avid watchers of the show believe that the hosting switch is a “big mistake” with one saying, “I can’t understand why Holly and Phil can’t lose a day.”
While actor and model Paul Sculfor lamented: “You guys will be missed dearly,” and Tess Daly assured Eamonn that she “couldn’t love [him] more.”

Ruth's fellow Loose Women panellist Kelle Bryan was hopeful for her friend’s future.
She wrote: “Well said hun. I am one of the lucky ones who still gets to work with you. Good things to come.”
Both Ruth and Eamonn reposted This Morning’s official statement which read: “We are pleased to announce that Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary are set to join the This Morning family as regular hosts.
The dynamic duo will share hosting duties with Phillip Schofield, Holly Willoughby, Eamonn Holmes OBE and Ruth Langsford from January 2021.”
