Fast and Furious 9 fans, it’s time to put your seatbelt on as it is finally jetting into cinemas this summer, after more than a year of waiting.
The ninth movie in the action franchise boasts an all-star cast, including Vin Diesel, John Cena and Tyrese Gibson, as well as a cameo from actual Cardi B.
In the upcoming film, bosses have put the female characters in the spotlight, with Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel and co. in the driving seat of cars, planes, tanks and whatever else they can get their hands on.
And we absolutely cannot wait.
Ahead of the release, they all appeared in a featurette to discuss how important it was for the female voice to be heard in what is normally a male-dominated space.
Speaking about the franchise as a whole, Michelle – who plays Letty – insisted: ‘It really sheds light on the female voice in action movies.’
‘Fast females take ownership of it,’ Charlize Theron, who made her debut as Cipher in Fast 8, agreed: ‘They raise the bar, they do the unexpected.’
‘I think that’s what makes Fast and Furious rather special,’ Helen Mirren vowed.
Giving us a little teaser of what we can expect from the next instalment, Michelle added: ‘In this movie, we’re not holding back when it comes to the action.’
We’ve seen the gang jump off moving planes, crash through skyscrapers in sports cars and even destroy the streets of Rio with a huge safe – what more is there to come?
Fast 9 will follow on from the events of The Fate of the Furious, which was released in 2017 and saw the gang travel around the world for justice.
The film will see Dominic Toretto (Vin) and his family face off against his younger brother Jakob (John) who has teamed up with their enemy Cipher, and who holds a personal vendetta against his sibling.
Original slated to drop on May 22, 2020, the release date was pushed back over a year due to cinemas being forced to close for social distancing.
It was one of many blockbuster films which were pushed back by months due to the ongoing disruption and closures caused by the pandemic.
Fast & Furious 9 will be released in US cinemas on June 25, and in the UK on July 8.
