If the first trailer for The Rock and The Stath’s Fast and Furious spin-off wasn’t enough, wait until you see this one. Hobbs and Shaw sees Johnson and Statham team up for their own solo outing with the director of John Wick and Deadpool 2 David Leith. Apart from more wonderfully over-the-top action set pieces and one-upmanship between the two big bald action stars, there’s plenty more in the latest trailer. Firstly, we learn from Idris Elba’s villain Brixton that Shaw’s sister (Vanessa Kirby) stole a virus from him that could wipe out half the population Thanos-style.
We also see the return of Helen Mirren as Magdalene Shaw, the mother of Deckard, Owen and Hattie, who appears to be doing some jail time.
Them the action heads to the Pacific island home of Hobbs, where we meet his family.
Here fans are treated to the first look at WWE star Roman Reigns as The Rock’s brother.
Before the pair lead a charge against Brixton forces’ with a Samoan Haka dance.
Hobbs and Shaw’s official synopsis reads: “Two years after the events of The Fate of the Furious, federal agent Luke Hobbs reveals he must join forces with his old ally Deckard Shaw in order to stop a new threat emerging from the international terrorist known as Brixton.”
Meanwhile, The Rock has confirmed that Hobbs and Shaw will not appear in Fast and Furious 9 – although this may not have to do with feud on the Furious 8 set.
Speaking with MTV News, he said: “The plan has always been for the Fast and Furious universe to grow and expand.
“As of now, we’re not in Fast 9 because they’re getting ready to start shooting.”
The Rock added: “But who knows with Fast 10 and down the road, you never know.
“Because, look, at the end of the day, the truth is there’s unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom. It’s unfinished.”
Surely Hobbs and Shaw have to be back for the tenth and final Fast and Furious movie, aside from establishing their own spin-off franchise.
Fast & Furious: Hobbs and Shaw is released in UK cinemas on August 2, 2019.
