There has been endless chatter in Marvel fan circles this week about whether or not Mark Ruffalo accidentally spoiled the reveal of Avengers 4‘s title… so he’s just decided to give up the game in front of the whole world now.
After all the secrecy, intrigue and misdirection from co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo, all it took was one fan begging Mark to “reveal the Avengers 4 title officially” on Tuesday (October 9). His answer was brilliant:
Aimed directly at US fans, he answered: “It’s Avengers 4: Register to Vote.”
Of course, Mark was only joking but he used the hype among millennials around Avengers for a very important purpose. Recent polls showed that 18-29 year-olds are the least likely group to vote in November’s mid-term elections.
Given that Tuesday is the deadline to register to vote in many US states, his little prank was crucially-timed and hopefully opened a few eyes of young people more concerned about Marvel than their crumbling reality.
Mark was also having a bit of fun after a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he supposedly revealed the super-secret title.
Even though his ‘gaffe’ was censored on-air, Marvel fans later worked out that he’d said ‘The Last Avenger’, leading to the Hulk actor jokingly pleading with his directors on Twitter not to fire him. Well, if Mark has burned the acting bridge, perhaps he should consider a career as a political campaigner?
Avengers: Infinity War is available to buy on Blu-ray, DVD or digital download. Avengers 4 will be released in the UK on April 26, 2019, and in the US on May 3, 2019.
