‘Stillwater’ Star Matt Damon Isn’t Against Doing Another ‘Bourne’ Movie — ‘You’re Never Too Old To Be That Guy’

Matt Damon is known for many big-budget Hollywood roles, but he’s arguably most famous for playing Jason Bourne in the Bourne franchise. He gained international fame as a rogue CIA assassin suffering from amnesia, dazzling audiences with insane stunts and pulse-pounding action sequences.

It’s been several years since Damon starred in the latest film in the franchise, Jason Bourne, but the Oscar-winning actor isn’t necessarily ready to let go of the character.

Matt Damon doesn’t want to rule out doing another ‘Bourne’ movie

Damon discussed the possibility of making another Bourne movie during a recent interview with Dan Patrick, noting that he isn’t ruling it out.

“Listen, if there’s a good story, you’re never too old to be that guy,” Damon said. “Eventually I would love to do another one,” Damon said.

He’ll only do another ‘Bourne’ movie if the story is good

Before committing too deeply, Damon added that there’d have to be an impressive screenplay in order for him to get back on board.

“It’s gotta be good,” Damon said. “I love those movies … there are a lot of really great friends of mine who put a lot into those and we don’t want to mess it up. So if we do it, it’s gotta be good.”

The ‘Stillwater’ star plans to pass on the role eventually

Damon also mentioned that he wouldn’t mind passing on his role to another actor at some point, regardless of their gender.

“And at some point, I’m gonna have to pass it on. I would love to figure out a way to hand it off to somebody. A man or a woman. … As if that name is a name we use and it can be anybody,” Damon said.

Jason Bourne was created to be the anti-James Bond

Prior to The Bourne Identity, government agents were typically portrayed as characters who had advanced technology and resources to help them complete their missions. However, the film’s creators intentionally went against the norm when developing Damon’s character.

“With the Bourne movies, we were playing on the idea that James Bond — we wanted to make him kind of the anti-James Bond,” Damon told Desus & Mero

While classic characters such as James Bond had special cars, guns, and gadgets that assisted them on their journeys, Bourne wasn’t given any special tools. He had to rely on his training, hand-to-hand combat skills, and instincts to stay alive.

“James Bond always has gadgets, right? ‘Well here’s a special pen that turns into a helicopter,’ you know what I mean?” Damon said. “And then it’s like it comes and it rescues him, or he can use it all of these situations. And we just kind of wanted to underline the point that Bourne got nothing like that. He’s just got to pick something up … He’s got to figure it out with a magazine and a toaster. And he’s like, ‘Alright, I got that.’
