Game of Thrones favourite Williams is one of the headline stars of the film, which was originally slated to come out in 2018. It was nudged right back to February of this year, before being delayed again to August. But now, amid rumours that it could be nudged back again – and even held back from cinemas altogether in favour of Disney’s own streaming service – Williams has said she is none the wiser.
“Who knows when the f**k that’s gonna come out,” she told Rolling Stone.
Disney has, of course, recently acquired Fox, which has made things a little more complicated.
Williams added that reshoots – ostensibly planned to “make it scarier” – haven’t happened yet, and that co-star Charlie Heaton is also unaware “what the f**k is going on with this movie”.
She added: “Hopefully this interview will make everyone hurry up a little bit!”
The New Mutants also stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt and Alice Braga.
It’s about five young mutants discovering their abilities whilst being held captive in a secret facility.
Principle photography took place back in 2017, after which director Josh Boone said he felt “a bit neutered” at having to tone down his “full horror” ideas.
The first trailer came out way back in October 2017, but it’s been caught in awkward limbo since.
The Hollywood Reporter claimed earlier this month of those reshoots that none are currently scheduled.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix also faced multiple delays, and will finally see the light of day in June.
Williams’ Game of Thrones co-star Sophie Turner takes the lead; joined by James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult and Alexandra Schipp.
Disney fully acquired 21st Century Fox on March 20.
