Carol Vorderman gushes over daughter’s success as she becomes a doctor

Carol Vordenman has announced that her daughter Katie King has successfully become a doctor after she achieved her PhD in medical science.

The 61-year-old gushed over her brunette daughter who focused her thesis on developing cancer treatments at Cambridge University.

And the doting mum-of-two couldn’t wait to boast about her 30-year-old daughter’s impressive achievements online as she took to her Instagram account to share the joyous news with her 206,000 followers online.

The Countdown icon posted a series of pictures of her beautiful daughter as the family celebrated her academic success together.

Carol penned: “Yesterday my girl Katie @katie.science passed her ‘viva’ … an interrogation of her PhD thesis by a panel of examiners.

“She can now call herself DOCTOR KATIE KING.

“It’s all she has ever wanted to be since being a little girl. A Cambridge research scientist and then to become an astronaut … like you do.”

She added: “Her thesis was about the delivery of a new cancer drug. The drug is hydrophobic (doesn’t mix with water) and so can be used instead of chemotherapy technique as it does not mix with blood.

“Katie’s research is about how to then deliver it specifically to the tumour. She’s using nanotechnology and in particular gold nano particles.

“Hopefully at some point this will help cancer sufferers not have to endure the all encompassing effects of chemotherapy.

“She is part of a big research team working at @cambridgeuniversity and with Astra Zeneca."

The Maths whiz went on: “So here’s me as her Mum. So proud. I know all the struggles she’s overcome, and the hard graft she’s put in to become this fine young woman.

“I don’t want this feeling to stop. She’s on top of the world … yeah xx. And quite honestly I am too and so is her little brother Cameron.

“What a lucky mother I am. Single parenting ain’t that bad after all,” followed by a slew of blue and red heart emojis.

But Katie isn't her only child who has gone on to achieve academic success after her son Cameron, 25, achieved his Master's degree from Dundee University back in November
