Elvis Presley’s 86th birthday celebrated by Linda Thompson ‘The greatest entertainer ever’

Elvis Presley was ’nuzzling’ against me says Linda Thompson

Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi and lived until his untimely death at just 42-years-old on August 16, 1977. Today would have been The King’s 86th birthday and now his former girlfriend Linda Thompson has paid tribute to the icon. The 70-year-old Miss Tennessee dated Elvis from 1972 to 1976 and posted pictures of their time together as a couple on her Instagram.

Linda wrote: “There will forever be only one Elvis Presley… A true original. It’s difficult to imagine that he would have been 86 years old January 8! And though he has been gone from this world for many, many years, he still reigns as the king…the greatest entertainer ever to have lived.

“He still has millions of the most dedicated and loyal fans celebrating his memory around the world!

“It does not escape me that I am so very fortunate to have seen hundreds of his shows, and to have loved and been loved by the man.”

Linda also posted a video clip of Elvis Presley performing I Can’t Stop Loving You during his 1973 TV special filmed live from Hawaii.

“Elvis was and will always be a profound influence on my life… Happy birthday, ‘Buntyn’ wherever you are…”

In other recent Instagram posts, the 70-year-old has shared how Elvis was so incredibly generous, especially at Christmas time, that they called him Santa.

While she also answered a fan’s question about The King’s bedroom, which remains off-limits on the Graceland tour.

Elvis’ 86th birthday celebration is currently taking place at his home of Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee.

The three-day event that began yesterday starts each morning with a free walk up to pay respects at The King’s grave in the Meditation Garden between 7:30-8:30am.

While later today at 9:30am (3pm GMT) the Elvis Birthday Proclamation Ceremony will be live-streamed on Graceland’s official Facebook page.

Last month, Jo Smith, the wife of Elvis’ cousin Billy, shared how the Memphis Mafia once pranked The King into a surprise birthday party.

Speaking on the Memphis Mafia Kid YouTube Channel, Jo said: “Elvis was always a drama, loved drama! If he was the one doing it, he didn’t like anyone else doing it.”

The King’s inner circle had tried several times to get Elvis over to bodyguard Red West’s house but kept on failing.

Jo admitted: “They figured they would do something really drastic!”

Jo continued: “So they had one of the guys call Graceland and tell Elvis that Red had shot himself in the foot. Well my god, I don’t think Elvis even hung the phone up!”

The King rushed over to the house, while the Memphis Mafia wrapped Red’s foot up with a bandage and put ketchup all over it.

Next thing they knew, Elvis came in with a flashlight as Red was hopping around with a cane. But then suddenly the rest of the Memphis Mafia jumped out and shouted, “Surprise! Happy Birthday!”

Jo shared: “Of course he loved it, but he couldn’t act like he really did…because that was one thing that we got away with doing that he didn’t know…was coming about.”
