I’m A Celeb’s Joey Essex rescued from drowning as presenters panic during trial

TOWIE legend Joey Essex urgently required emergency assistance as someone had to intervene before he almost drowned during an I'm A Celeb trial.

The gruesome challenge had him swimming through freezing cold water leaving the show's presenters extremely worried.

The 31-year-old Essex legend is currently starring in the Aussie version of the squeamish show I'm A Celebrity: Australia, hosted by Chris Brown and Julie Morris.

In Wednesday's episode, the TOWIE star had been tasked with swimming through ice-cold temperatures as he had to reach into an ice block to win stars for the camp.

After Joey reached the end of the course, the star had a challenging 20 second time limit to swim back to the start and join the presenters.

Swimming back through the icy water and making his way to the presenters, Joey struggled and began to run out of oxygen leading to him becoming disorientated whilst enduring the freezing cold temperatures.

It didn't take long until the presenters, especially Julie, realised something was wrong and called for an emergency diver to interfere before Joey went underwater.

In the clip, Julie shrieked: "Oh my God. I'm gonna panic. Can we get the diver?"

The emergency diver then helped Joey out of the freezing cold water and he had a safe exit.

Ahead of his daring jungle stint on Australia's Channel 10 show, Joey admitted that he's ready to find love again while he's in the jungle.

Before entering, Joey said: "If I find someone single in the camp and fall in love, I'll be the happiest man on earth."

He describes his type as who looks like Hailey Bieber or Kendall Jenner – luckily for Joey the only other singleton to appear in this year's Aussie line-up, Miss Universe Australia contestant, a South-Asian Australian, kind of fits the bill.

Essex lad Joey first shot to fame to fame on the second series of ITVBe's TOWIE in 2011 – he stayed on the show for eight seasons before leaving to pursue other projects.

His extensive reality TV career has seen him shows such as Educating Joey Essex, the dating reality series Celeb's Go Dating, the ski show The Jump, and Celebrity Ex On The Beach.

The reality TV legend starred in the UK version of I'm A Celebrity back in 2013, alongside his co-stars, Westlife star Kian Egan, Emmerdale actress Lucy Pargeter and model Amy Willerton – Joey finished in fourth place.
