Star Wars actor Gina Carano axed from series after Instagram post about Nazis

Actress Gina Carano has been axed from The Mandalorian series following a social media post about Nazis.

The 38-year-old actress came under fire on Wednesday for her post, resulting in a social media trend under the hashtag #FireGinaCarano which showed her now-deleted Instagram post.

Gina, who played the role of bounty hunter Cara Dune in the first two seasons will not be returning a spokesperson for Lucasfilm confirmed, after saying her social media posts were "abhorrent and unacceptable".

Taking to her Instagram account that has 1.5 million followers, The Disney+ actress shared an image claiming that being a Republican supporter in the United States is similar to "being Jewish during the Holocaust".

The post read: "Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbours… even by children.

"Because history is edited, most people today don't realise that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbours hate them simply for being Jews.

"How is that any different from hating someone for their political views"

After bosses at Lucasfilm became aware of her post, they issued a statement revealing she had been dismissed from the series.

"Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future, nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable."

She came underfire in November for sharing several tweets to her Twitter page, mocking those who wore facemasks during the coronavirus pandemic and another, claiming that voter fraud had played a part in the 2020 US Election.
