Steven Tyler’s life in the rock band Aerosmith would have taken up a huge amount of his time. As a result, it would not be surprising if he did not have much of a personal life, as he spent every waking moment writing, performing and recording. However, Steven certainly found time to get married and have children – but how many kids did he have?
Steven Tyler, 72, has four children and five grandchildren.
One of his children is the famous actress Liv Tyler, who is 43-years-old.
Steven had Liv with model Bebe Buell, who was born on July 1, 1977.
Though she gave birth after a relationship with Steven, Bebe did not tell Liv about her parentage, and instead, she grew up believing rockstar Todd Rundgren was her biological father.
In an interview with Wonderland magazine from 2011, Liv said of her parentage: “Todd basically decided when I was born that I needed a father so he signed my birth certificate.
“He knew that there was a chance that I might not be his but…
“He completely supported me and put me through amazing private schools and I would go see him three times a year, he lived in Woodstock.
“I sort of stopped calling him dad but, you know, when he… He’s the most, I mean, I’m so grateful to him, I have so much love for him.
“You know, when he holds me it feels like Daddy. And he’s very protective and strong.”
She was told the truth about her parentage when she was 11-years-old, after meeting Steven for the first time aged just eight-years-old.
Liv suggested she was not particularly close to her father, who she called “very busy,” however this was almost 10 years ago.
She said of her father: “You know that relationship is still sort of hard. He’s very busy, my dad.
“He’s not around very much; it’s sort of hard being the daughter of a rockstar.
“There’s definitely, at times… it can be painful… especially for me, I can’t speak for all of his…
“In the past few years we haven’t been very close. He has been going through a lot of things on his own and he has not been the… he hasn’t been around that much for us.
“So that’s been hard. But I probably shouldn’t be talking about this… I wish, I wish, I really wish he was around more, to know Milo more, and… but he has to go through what he goes through.”
In 1978, Steven had a second daughter, Mia, on December 22, 1978, with his first wife model Cyrinda Foxe.
Mia is 41-years-old, meaning she and Liv are fairly close in age, but her parents divorced in 1987, and in 2002 Cyrinda died of cancer.
In 1988, Steven married designer Teresa Barrick, with whom he had two more children: Chelsea, born in 1989; and Taj, born in 1991.
The couple divorced January 2006 after almost a year of separation, after which Steven began a relationship with Erin Brady in 2006.
He and Erin became engaged in 2011, but in 2013 they broke off their engagement.
Liv has three children – a son born in 2004, a second son born in 2015, and a daughter born in 2016.
Mia, Steven’s second child, had a son named Axton on May 10, 2017, while his daughter Chelsea had her son, Vincent, on February 21, 2020.
It is unknown whether Steven’s son, Taj, has any children, but he had five grandchildren through his daughters.
Before his first marriage, however, Steven started dating 16-year-old Julia Holcomb in 1975, with whom he conceived a child.
According to Julia, who has spoken about her experiences as part of an anti-abortion campaign, Julia had an abortion during their relationship, which was part of the reason the relationship eventually broke down, along with the trauma from an apartment fire.
Speaking about the abortion, Steven said in Aerosmith autobiography Walk This Way: “It was a big crisis.
“It’s a major thing when you’re growing something with a woman, but they convinced us that it would never work out and would ruin our lives.
“You go to the doctor and they put the needle in her belly and they squeeze the stuff in and you watch. And it comes out dead.
“I was pretty devastated. In my mind, I’m going, Jesus, what have I done?”
