This ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Alumni Calls Herself ‘The Ed Sheeran of Drag'

Trixie Mattel is a skinny legend with chart-topping albums like Two Birds and One Stone. (She’s gay, she loves themes.)

She’s known for her appearance on the reality competition series RuPaul’s Drag Race, as well as her heartfelt original music. Some even consider her to be the “Ed Sheeran of Drag.”

Trixie Mattel is the legend, icon, and star of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race: All-Stars 3’

Very few drag queens can rhyme “Shangela” with “tarantula.” Then again, very few queens are skinny legends in the Drag Race Hall of Fame.

Trixie Mattel first competed on RuPaul’s Drag Race season 7, later spinning straw into gold by starring in the Viceland series The Trixie and Katya Show, launching Trixie Cosmetics, appearing in an advertising campaign for JetBlue, and partnering with Netflix for the YouTube series “I Like To Watch.”

The Backwoods Barbie returned to the Werk Room for RuPaul’s Drag Race: All-Stars 3, where her charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent earned her the crown and the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar.”

Some fans know Trixie Mattel for her original music, including the chart-topping albums Two Birds and One Stone. Sometimes, the artist performs original songs live, especially during her “Now With Moving Parts” comedy shows. Other times, she references musicians/trolls during those concerts.

Trixie Mattel is the unofficial ‘Ed Sheeran of Drag’

This artist calls herself the “Ed Sheeran of Drag,” but not without reason. During 2018’s Dragathon, the country artist performed songs like “Kitty Girl,” Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide,” and Avril Lavigne’s “Sk8er Boi.” She also mentioned some of RuPaul’s original music.

Before performing her cover of RuPaul’s “Cover Girl,” Trixie Mattel shared that she is so “debilitatingly caucasian” that she can suck the magic out of anything.

“I love Ed Sheeran, but doesn’t he look like he can crawl up from under a bridge and ask you a riddle,” Trixie Mattel continued. She sang a segment of “Shape of You” as troll-esque Sheeran before resuming her performance.

Trixie Mattel released covers of songs like Lana Del Rey’s ‘Video Games’

RuPaul’s Drag Race songs featuring Trixie Mattel are available on Spotify. However, one of this artist’s most popular songs is “Heavy Crown,” which holds over 6 million plays on Spotify.

Two Birds (now available on iTunes) landed this country artist/drag performer between the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 soundtrack and Sheeran in terms of album sales. Of course, that is an exceptional place to be.

“My grandpa always told me being a performer was 40% how good you are and 60%I how good you look doing it,” the drag performer said during an interview with World of Wonder. “Two Birds is my 140%. It makes me want to put a wig on Ed Sheeran and French kiss Chris Pratt.”

Music by Trixie Mattel is available on most major streaming platforms, including Apple Music and Spotify.
