He didn’t win Love Island but Wes Nelson is determined to win the chart race with Ariana Grade.
With his debut single See Nobody now rising to No3, Wes is confident he will make history and become the first ever Love Islander to reach No1 by overtaking Ari’s Positions next week.
Wes told Daily Star: “It still has legs, it’s climbing, and it’s really holding its own.
“Every time I think about the fact that I am battling with Ariana, it’s mental, it’s very strange but we are up week-on-week and I think she is going down.
“So if we keep going up and keep going the way that we are going, and she keeps going on a downwards curve then there is a good chance we will hit No1.
“I can actually have a number one and it feels insane saying it out loud.”
Wes hopes having a chart-topping single will finally silence the critics and prove he’s serious about his music.
He said: “This is it for me, this is it, this isn’t a side project, music is what I want to do, it is what I do.
“There is a stigma surrounding reality and things like that and I don’t know why.
“That’s why I had to make sure that what I did come out with was completely dope, it had to be good otherwise I would have got rinsed.”
And British rapper Chip advised Wes on how to build a reputable career and avoid being a one hit wonder.
The singer/rapper revealed: “I was talking to Chip and he was talking about consistency and he was really frank with me, he was like ‘cool, you have a song but what is next?’
“It was a good conversation about consistency and that’s what will establish you as an artist, not being a one hit wonder, or having a song, it’s about being a consistent artist.
“It was a dope conversation and he was right.”
