Black Summer is the ongoing zombie apocalypse series on Netflix which continues to grow in popularity on the streaming platform. With season two premiering back in June, fans are looking for any updates on the third season. Express.co.uk sat down with Jaime King to discuss her thoughts on the show moving forward as well as her new role in the action-packed blockbuster, Out of Death.
Debuting on June 17, season two of Black Summer proved to be another brutal exercise in survival for the characters stuck in the undead end of days.
Jaime King’s Rose leads the series and the fight against the hoards of the zombie menace, with the fate of the character and show being left in the balance at the end of season two.
Nearly two months on from the release of season two, Netflix is yet to confirm the release of a third season.
Fans shouldn’t fear, however, as it is typical for Netflix to take its time in confirming potential continuations.
There was a two-year gap between seasons one and two, but that was in part due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic which caused several delays during development.
Most fans agree that the second season has improved on almost every aspect of the show since season one.
It continues to remain a frightening experience for viewers during each and every zombie encounter.
Much like season one, season two gave fans an ambiguous end, leaving the fates of many of the characters up in the air.
Rose was one of them, despite the fact she was seen breathing before the credits hit, she along with some other survivors were left at the airstrip, with the plane leaving them behind.
The next season could see Rose form a new group, one in which she must work with previous rivals in order to survive.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, King detailed her thoughts on what she would want from the show moving forward.
“I have a few ideas,” King explained, “I’m excited to get the writer’s room going again.
“This is the kind of series that could go on forever, but I think it would be really powerful to do it in just three seasons, if possible.
“What do you do when there are no more commodities left? Exploring that idea.”
King’s idea would fit directly after the events of season two, as the remaining group is now left alone, with very limited supplies.
Express.co.uk also got the chance to talk to the star about her new film Out of Death, where she co-stars alongside Bruce Willis.
The film follows the story of a corrupt Sheriff’s department in a rural mountain town that falls apart when an accidental witness makes the shady operations more difficult.
King plays the role of the witness, Shannon, who is a photojournalist, which the star explained “wasn’t originally in the script”.
King continued: “I really wanted to make sure the camera felt like it was a part of my body, that is why I decided she would be a photojournalist, not just someone that randomly had a camera.
“I wanted [Shannon] to not necessarily be someone that was adapted to the athletic nature of what she turned out to me.”
King also talked about the intensity of the action in the film and that the story would not just simply be about that, but it would also explore important themes throughout.
“Anytime you want to explore sensitive topics in these genres, it becomes entertaining,” King continued, “it’s not just being didactic.”
“There are many different ways to inform, to educate, to explore things, but I don’t really think people want it shoved down their throats, so I think this is the most powerful way to do it.”
Out of Death is directed by Mike Burns and written by Bill Lawrence, both of whom are newcomers to theatrical filmmaking.
Black Summer is available to watch exclusively on Netflix.
Out of Death is for digital download now on Google Play, Apple TV, YouTube, Amazon Video, and Vudu.
