Caller Bill rang into the Jeremy Vine Show as the panel debated the fate of Geronimo the alpaca who has tested positive twice for TB with orders to put him down by the Government to prevent him from spreading the disease. However, the issue has raised a huge debate over scientific testing with owner Helen Macdonald insisting the tests are false positives but refuses to test him for the third time. Bill defended Ms Macdonald and said people do not kill those with COVID-19 to prevent the spread which silenced the panel who could not believe what they were hearing.

Speaking on the Jeremy Vine Show, Bill defended the alpaca and said it was wrong to kill an animal because it had an illness.

He told the show: “First of all, and good morning panel, Jeremy, how is it morally right to kill another species or animal with a transmittable disease but we don’t do it with our own species, like with Covid.”

Mr Vine was gobsmacked and said: “Oh my gosh, ok, we don’t kill humans with Covid…”

Bill replied: “No, that is a transmissible disease among humans and we’re quite willing to put another animal of another species down.”

Mr Vine said it was probably because humans are a dominant species and have more value over other animals in our eyes.

Bill wondered if the IQ of the llama was tested for which, again, stunned the panel with Mr Vine quipping: “I don’t know how many GCSEs he had got Bill.”

Commentator Dominque Samuels was also on the show and shared her thoughts by adding: “I get the emotion behind it but animals aren’t like humans so I don’t think it makes sense to make that comparison with Covid really.”

Mr Vine told Bill “keep working on that one” as he swiftly moved on.

Stanley Johnsons says another test should be done on Geronimo the alpaca

Animal rights protesters marched on Downing Street on Monday to demand Geronimo’s execution to be overturned.

However, it appears there are no ministers which have come out to support the protesters with even Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer admitting the Government was likely right on this issue.

Ms Macdonald told Sky News earlier this week: “They don’t have to kill him.

“We haven’t seen any factual information coming out recently and certainly not for the last four years – they’re still misquoting data on the tests they claim is highly accurate and specific.”

Ms Macdonald appeared on the Jeremy Vine Show too and said ministers lacked the “courage” to meet and speak with her about the alpaca.

She also revealed media outlets have set up a 24-hour camera overlooking her farm to make sure authorities do not sneak up and steal the alpaca to kill.

A public petition has been set up with over 100,000 signatures demanding the Government saves Geronimo.

However, commentators and scientists have pointed out many cows and badgers have had to be culled because they have caught TB and did not know why such a big issue was being made about one animal.

One caller to the Jeremy Vine Show even pointed out thousands of chickens and other animals were being slaughtered every day for their meat and believed the focus on one alpaca was wrong.
