Fixer Upper fans, rejoice! After the sad end of HGTV’s Fixer Upper earlier in 2018, Chip and Joanna Gaines are already headed back to TV. The duo has paired with the Discovery Channel to create their very own network. You read that right. Moving on up!
The reality stars announced their return to television on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon earlier this week.
Just before sharing the good news, Chip cracked a joke to Jimmy.
“We signed a non-disclosure and it said quote unquote you can tell your mother but that’s it,” he said. “So mom, I just wanted to make a quick announcement. We are coming back to television. You are going to get to see the kids grow up, you’ll get to see us, well maybe a six-month delay like the rest of the world, but we are excited to be back.”
He continued to discuss the specifics of the deal, which seems like a work in progress. “We actually partnered with [Discovery Channel CEO] David Zaslav and Discovery. We’re actually going to have a network, and I think we’re going to really carve it out in a way that makes sense to us and our family. It’s going to be filmed a lot in Waco, Texas, so we don’t have to travel a whole lot. So with all things being equal, we’re really excited.”
During the segment, Chip was clearly excited about the duo’s appearance on The Tonight Show because he kept jumping out of his chair. However, Jimmy jumped out of his seat to proclaim his excitement for their return to television. Same!
John Marsicano, a spokesman for Chip and Joanna’s lifestyle brand, Magnolia, confirmed the announcement in a statement to People:
“We’re excited to share that we are currently in the early stages of talking with Discovery about a lifestyle-focused media network for Magnolia. The details surrounding this opportunity remain a work in progress, but together, our hope is to build a different kind of platform for unique, inspiring and family-friendly content,” he said.
Watch the announcement below.
In September 2017, the pair released a statement announcing the end of their beloved series and stating they wanted to focus on family and their new baby, who was due in 2018. Fixer Upper Season 5 ended in April 2018.
During a chat with People in October, Chip said, “The show was amazing and we are so thankful for it, but it’s also a whirlwind where, if you are not careful, it will flat run you over. You can’t believe how out of gas you are.”
The upcoming Discovery network is only the latest successful project for the Fixer Upper duo. The two run The Magnolia Journal, which is owned and published by Meredith (People’s parent company), their restaurant Magnolia Table, and a successful line at Target. The list goes on, and we couldn’t be happier for the couple.
Not to mention that they still haven’t ruled out a return to their Fixer Upper roots.
