In recent weeks, Coronation Street viewers have watched as Zeedan (played by Qasim Akhtar) has been forced to scam his own grandmother Yasmeen Metcalfe (Shelley King), by his father-in-law Hashim Elamin (Vincent Ebrahim). Zeedan is clearly in way over his head and he is struggling to cover up the money laundering scheme. So far, Zeedan has kept it all a secret, but how long will it be before he involves someone else?
In scenes due to air next week, with Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) out of the way, Zeedan takes the opportunity to launder some of Hashim’s money through the Speed Daal till.
When in the restaurant, Zeedan stuffs a bag of Hashim’s stolen cash in his rucksack as police officer Craig (Colson Smith) approaches.
Craig reveals that Alya contacted him as she’s worried that Hashim is giving him grief.
However, will Craig question Zeedan about the money?
Craig has been in trouble before, and it is only a matter of time before it happens again.
Earlier this year, the copper became caught in the middle after his colleague PC Brody (Daniel Jillings) stopped James Bailey (Nathan Graham) and his brother while they were test driving a sports car.
James filed a racism complaint against PC Brody, but at the time the police decided not to act on the grievance because Craig didn’t intervene and stand up for his friends.
Craig is a bit of a loner and so, Zeedan could take advantage of the police officer by getting him to help cover up the money laundering scheme.
Zeedan may also end up blackmailing Craig in a bid to protect his sister – but will it put either or both behind bars?
Elsewhere in the ITV soap, Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) also begins to get suspicious of Zeedan’s behaviour.
Alya offers Ryan some shifts at Speed Daal after his DJ equipment was destroyed in the storm.
As he heads to the restaurant for his first shift, Ryan notices Zeedan having a heated conversation with Hashim.
Later, when Ryan questions Zeedan over what the conversation was, he refuses to answer, which leaves Ryan questioning why.
This is when Ryan takes the opportunity to tell Alya about Zeedan’s argument with his father-in-law.
Zeedan also later reveals to Alya and Yasmeen that he’s rehired the food van and intends to make a proper go of it this time.
He then calls Hashim and assures him that he’s come up with a plan.
But, will this be another way to cover up the money laundering, and will Craig be involved?
Speaking about his latest storyline, the actor who plays Zadeen told Digital Spy: “[Zeedan] has crossed the wrong people and he has got on the wrong side of someone who is quite a big fish.
“So he will be bringing trouble to the street and Yasmeen and Alya are going to find themselves in the crossfire and the thick of it with him.”
Zeedan made a sudden return to the cobbles last month following a three-year absence from the soap.
Before his return, Alya left him a voicemail explaining she had been scammed out of thousands of pounds and desperately needed help.
Zeedan offered to transfer her the money to help keep her afloat, but it led to Alya asking questions as to where he got the money from.
Zeedan was also beaten on the streets by two mystery thugs as he made his way to Speed Daal for a family meal.
It was soon discovered that Zeedan owed Hashim, his father-in-law, a load of money and was forced to scam his grandmother Yasmeen through the money laundering scheme.
Coronation Street airs on Friday at 7.30pm on ITV.
