Coronation Street fans spot major blunder with Claire Sweeney and Alan Halsall | The Sun

CORONATION Street fans have spotted a major blunder with Claire Sweeney and Alan Halsall.

Former Brookside star Claire, who plays Cassie, turned out to be Evelyn Plummer's daughter – and Tyrone Dobbs' mum in recent scenes.

Cassie was first seen loitering around the street spying on Evelyn – played by Maureen Lipman – before a later scene showed Evelyn receiving a call from the hospital.

She had been found unconscious on the street after an overdose.

Evelyn berated her daughter for overdosing again, before she got another shock when Cassie revealed she'd turned to pills after learning Evelyn was living with her grandson, Tyrone.

However, viewers have spotted a major blunder with Claire, 52, playing the role of Tyrone's mother.

They pointed out how the actors look close in age – with Alan Halsall aged 40.

Writing on social media, fans said how Claire is too young to be playing his mum.

One said: “So Tyrone is supposed to be this mystery woman’s son, but they look the same age?”

A second wrote: “She had Tyrone when she was 11?"

“Claire Sweeney is Tyrone’s mam and there is 12 years between them. This programme," said a third.

While a fourth commented: “How the hell is she Tyrone’s mum? Aren’t they the same age?”

It was revealed earlier this year that Claire had joined the cobbles.

Previously speaking about joining the show, Claire said: “Even though I’ve been lucky enough to have enjoyed an amazingly varied career for nearly 40 years – being cast in Coronation Street is, to me, better than being cast in a Hollywood movie!

"I’ve watched it all my life and can’t quite believe that I’ll now be stepping onto those famous cobbles myself."
