Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has signed a new contract to stay on the ITV soap.
The 32-year-old actor — who plays David Platt on the long-running serial drama — recently celebrated 20 years on the cobbles, but it appears as if he’s not going anywhere just yet, as he has signed a new contract.
‘Jack might be classed as one of the younger stars but he’s got 20 years under his belt and that nearly puts him in the veterans’ bracket,’ A source told The Sun.
‘He’s loved by fans young and old and is an important piece of the Corrie jigsaw.’
News of Jack’s new deal comes just days after several legendary Coronation Street stars signed new contracts.
William Roache (Ken Barlow), Sally Dynevor (Sally Metcalfe), Simon Gregson (Steve McDonald), Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw) and Michael Le Vell (Kevin Webster) have all secured new deals to stay on the serial drama until at least 2021.
‘These are the lifeblood of the show and, frankly, it would not be Corrie without them’, a source told The Sun.
‘Despite a difficult year, bosses were delighted when they agreed deals, keeping them on screen until at least 2021.
‘Between them, they have given nearly 200 years to the show.’
Coronation Street celebrated its 60th anniversary this week, with last night’s episode (December 9) seeing the highly acclaimed Geoff and Yasmeen story reach something of a conclusion.
