Coronation Street’s Jane Danson revealed she cried reading her scripts detailing Leanne’s heartbreaking storyline with her son Oliver.
In recent scenes, Leanne has been fighting to keep Oliver’s life support on in the hopes that a cure will be found for his mitochondrial disease.
However, she discovered that beau Nick Tilsley (played by Ben Price) didn’t feel the same way during Friday’s episodes and cut him out of both her and son’s life.
Jane confessed she was overcome with emotion as she read the scripts and had to put them down several times as she was moved to tears.
Speaking to Lorraine Kelly on Monday morning, she said: ‘It’s been really tough. We’ve worked really closely with the Lily Foundation. A lovely lady called Liz Curtis sadly lost her own baby when she was eight-months-old, little Lily, and she told me her story.
‘As a parent, it pulls on your heartstrings anyway, but as a parent, it feels even more overwhelming. The scripts have been so wonderful, it’s hard not to cry.’
She continued: ‘The last few weeks we’ve had have been really tough and next couple of weeks on-screen are quite full on, as you can imagine.
‘I think they’re possibly the best scripts I’ll ever have, in all honestly, and I had to put them down several times because it’s truly, truly heartbreaking.’
Jane added: ‘This has felt like the most important and certainly the most challenging storyline. We had a huge responsibility to get this right.’
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
