Corrie reveals Carla Connor's return storyline

The last time we saw Carla Connor (Alison King) in Coronation Street, she was in a fragile state after a public breakdown from her ongoing battle with psychosis, which led to her having visions of Rana Habeeb (Bhavna Limbachia). After Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) managed to get through to her, Carla was returned to hospital, who then found her a placement in a specialist care unit in Carlisle.

Peter decided to go with her but as her intense treatment comes to an end, she is about to tentatively return home for the first time since what happened – but will she cope with the all too familiar surroundings and the dark memories and trigger points that they hold?

Carla will arrive back on the Street next week on Wednesday 3rd July, with a supportive but nervous Peter by her side. He is concerned she is returning too soon and panics that she will take on too much and put her recovery at stake – but how fragile is Carla and is she still on the edge of snapping once more?

New pictures revealed by ITV’s website show Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) announcing to the factory staff that Carla will soon be back. But will she be ready to take up the helm at Underworld once more or will she leave Sarah in charge? And what surprise might she have in store for the staff, who may well have mixed feelings about her return?

Another picture shows a lucid Carla sitting calmly while a worried Peter tries to talk to her. But is he right to be concerned or is he being over protective of the woman he loves?

There’s no doubt that coming back to the Street will be a daunting prospect for them both, but with family and friends around them, can they get through this together?
