Strictly Come Dancing fans saw the return of Motsi Mabuse tonight after Anton Du Beke had acted as her replacement when she was forced to self-isolate for two weeks. Some of those watching at home were pleading for Anton to come back to the panel after having enjoyed his judging style in recent weeks – but he was put in his place by Craig Revel Horwood, who told him in a brutal dig: “You’re no longer up here!”
Bill Bailey received a positive reception after his Jive tonight, where he scored a respectable 24 points for the fast-paced routine.
But when host Tess Daly moved on to Craig for his verdict, he used the opportunity to make a light-hearted dig at Anton.
It wasn’t long before the typically picky judge picked Bill’s routine apart, saying: “I thought it was a bit stompy and also a little bit too…” before he was met with disapproval from the crowd.
Of course, the audience at the moment only consists of those competing in the programme as well as some of the show’s professional dancers.
And Craig added: “Is that Anton booing from the cheap seats, darling?”
“He wasn’t on his own,” Tess quipped with the camera panning to Anton jokingly booing the judge.
Craig paused and laughed off the moment before he delivered a brutal dig in Anton’s direction.
“Sorry Anton, but you’re no longer up here!” remarked the judge – which led to further noise of disapproval from the audience.
“Oh, that’s more like it! It fills me with excitement,” Craig joked in response.
Adding in a compliment, he said: “I have to say, Bill, you have your very own style and I absolutely adore it! I really, really do.
“So my suggestion would be to continue to bend it like Bill, darling – well done,” Craig added.
And fans soon commented on the moment, urging the show to bring Anton back as one shared: “Boo Craig! Leave Anton alone! PS we love you really Craig.”

Another said: “COME ON, STRICTLY!!! Everyone KNOWS they’re a perfect team. Now let Anton get back up there. We love him and we love Craig. How long are you going to keep us waiting!!!!”
“Get #Anton back!! You had four judges before – you can have four judges again!! #wewantanton #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly #Strictly2020 @bbcstrictly,” wrote a third.
A fourth added: “Come on @bbcstrictly add @TheAntonDuBeke to the judging panel permanently or at the very least for the remainder of this series.”
It came after Motsi Mabuse gave some positive comments on the routine, telling Bill: “You can see the coordination of the movements, you can see working on the hands.
“And, you can see the rhythm in all the different steps, you have some fast rhythms and slow rhythms.
“You know you get this focus in between Bill where you get in your zone and you can see you’re living it – and I love that!”
However, she couldn’t help pick up on an error, continuing: “There was a mistake over there, I did see it and you know, it doesn’t matter because the rest of the Jive, you gave 100 percent.
“You’re a role model for many, many men watching this show,” Motsi added.
