Janine’s sudden reappearance will likely send shockwaves around Walford and with enemies to boot around every corner, trouble will no doubt follow her back to E20.

Here are five theories that suggest why Janine may be heading back to Albert Square.

The long-lost father of Sonia Fowler – who is played by Brian Conley in the BBC One soap – didn’t exactly get off to the best start when he arrived in Walford.

Sonia has been suspicious of Terry, aka Rocky, ever since he arrived on the Square in May with a fake name and vowed he wanted to build a relationship with her.

Could Janine be Rocky's secret wife as his past remains past remains shrouded in mystery?

Or could Rocky had wed Janine and turned up at Albert Square aware of her connection to Walford.

Sonia's suspicions were piqued last week after she found a series of photos of the Square’s houses on Rocky’s phone.

Rocky’s interest in houses on the Square, in particular Ruby’s, leaves Sonia questioning his motives.

Perhaps Rocky and Janine are working together to take over Albert Square in a property development scheme.

Or the pair could be exes with Janine determined to take Rocky to the cleaners in a nasty divorce – not to mention that would mean that Janine is Sonia's step-mum.

Janine was last seen heading to Paris in 2014 to pick up her daughter Scarlett but her whereabouts have been unknown since then.

It can also be confirmed that her daughter Scarlett will return with her.

Kat Slater's son Tommy and Scarlett share the same father Michael Moon, Tommy has also been recast Sonny Kendall – hinting at a possible storyline for the siblings.

Janine brutally knifed to death her former love interest Michael in 2013 in an explosive showdown.

Her return could be part of her plan to save her daughter's life, with Tommy as her only blood connection, perhaps she needs bone marrow or an organ to keep her little girl alive.

Janine's return will likely ruffle some feathers especially Kat who may not pleased ifTommy plans on getting to know his half-sister.

The EastEnders cast have been filming a dramatic explosion scene that left smoke billowing from the set, according to reports.

Bosses are keen to keep the fireball plot under wraps, but local residents saw the smoke and heard a collection of emergency service vehicles wailing in the Square.

Janine could be at the centre of the explosive scenes, the villain could be escaping from someone dangerous and about to bring trouble to the residents of Albert Square.

She's used to creating a few enemies, so perhaps she has set a deadly chain of events in motion which could lead to lives being lost.

A source told Metro: "There were ambulances and fire engines and a lot of smoke. It was definitely not an emergency, they were filming something."

While the show declined to reveal details of the storyline in a bid to keep it a surprise for fans, an insider said: "The explosion is really the start of a massive autumn for the show that will take them through the rest of the year."

Louisa Lytton, 32, who plays Ruby Allen is currently pregnant with her first baby with fiancé Ben Bhanvra, 30.

The pregnant EasEnders actress is due to give birth to her first child in September and is scheduled to go on maternity leave later this year.

This could be the perfect opportunity for Janine to get her hands on the nightclub – she previously managed it so could slot right back in.

Ruby has been at the centre of her endometriosis storyline as she struggles to conceive a baby with partner Martin.

The businessowner may take some time away from the Square, leaving the door open for Janine to potentially take over the club in her absence.

This may be the perfect chance for Janine to start plotting to take over the club for good, she may even rope of old pal Billy with her devious plan.

An unlikely friendship may have formed between Stacey Slater and the super villain.

Janine may have landed herself in prison, possibly meeting Stacey, who in locked up for 'pushing' Ruby down the stairs.

Perhaps Stacey and Janine be making their comebacks at the same time?

Or could the pair be even worse enemies than before?

Speaking ahead of her return, Charlie said: “I am beyond excited to be slipping back into Janine’s shoes and returning to the square.

“The time feels right and I can’t wait to find out what she’s been up to for the last seven years!

“She is and always has been SO much fun to play. Feels a bit like coming home. It’s good to be back.”

Executive producer Jon Sen added: “Janine is one of EastEnders most iconic characters who is loved, and often despised, in equal measure by viewers and all those in Walford.

“Charlie’s portrayal of Janine over the years has created some of EastEnders most memorable moments and we are all really excited to see Charlie bring her incredible portrayal of Janine back again.

“We have lots of drama in store for Janine, in fact it may be wise for some of the residents of Walford to invest in some slip on shoes…”
