ED Sheeran has revealed who his biggest critic is – nine-month-old daughter Lyra.
In a comeback interview for Radio 1 today, he said: “I’ll sing to my daughter, who’s not my biggest fan.
“She just cries. I’ve got some she likes. She really likes Shape Of You – the marimba sound is good but she doesn’t like anything loud or anything belty.”
Aside from the single Afterglow in December, Ed has been on a musical hiatus since 2019. Before that, he switched to acting, with a part in pal Richard Curtis’s film Yesterday.
He said: “If you look at that movie, the premise is a bloke who gets really, really, really famous round the world and, it’s a bit unbelievable, comes from Suffolk. There are all these factors in it where I was like, ‘Has he written this about me?’
“I got invited round Richard’s house with my wife and he’s like, ‘We’re thinking of getting Chris Martin as the musical guy in the film’, and I’m like, ‘OK, but . . . ’
“Anyway, they asked Chris Martin, he said no, they asked Harry Styles, he said no, and I was third choice.” Ed, who has a net worth of £220million, added: “I’ve been very fortunate to be able to do what I love as a job for a long time. I’ve done all right and I’d say I have more than I’d ever need.
“I don’t know whether my ten-year-ago self would recognise the guy now. I never, ever thought I’d play anything bigger than a theatre.”
Ed, who yesterday was pictured pouring red wine over himself to celebrate a billion streams of his track Beautiful People with Khalid, spoke in a Kids Ask Difficult Questions interview.
The radio chat also hits iPlayer and YouTube next Friday. It can be heard ahead of a comeback set at Radio 1’s Big Weekend of Live Music broadcast at 2pm today.
