Emmerdale fans praise ITV soap for emotional Arthur and Marshall twist

Emmerdale viewers were left emotional on Tuesday night's episode as they praised the ITV soap for a sweet Arthur Thomas and Marshall twist.

During the latest instalment, Arthur, who recently came out as gay in powerful scenes, was hurt and upset after learning his LGBTQ History assembly had been cancelled.

After accusing Jai Sharma of being the parent that called to cancel the assembly, Arthur stormed off with classmate Marshall quick to find him and give his support.

At first, Arthur was suspicious as to whether he could trust Marshall as last month the schoolboy pretended to be interested in dating him as a bet.

However, sitting on the pirate ship outside, Marshall admitted that while he did have a bet with friends, he didn't realise they were watching him and that wanting to go on a date with him wasn't a bet.

To which Arthur was taken aback as he suggested they could still go on a date, adding they could go somewhere quiet and no one has to know.

With Marshall sweetly saying he'd like that as he leaned in for a kiss but the scene was soon interrupted by his father ringing his phone.

To which he said: "I shouldn't be here" and quickly left, leaving Arthur confused.

Viewers were quick to take to Twitter to praise the emotional scenes and sweet twist of Marshall actually liking Arthur.

One person said: "Arthur and Marshall are so sweet #Emmerdale."

A different account put: "Well directed scene with Arthur and Marshall #Emmerdale."

Another follower wrote: "#Emmerdale are nailing the Arthur storyline. It’s one of soap’s best."

While a different viewer added: "#Emmerdale Awww Arthur and Marshall" followed by a heart emoji.
