Emmerdale hints at James Tate return in latest Kim twist – but who is he again?

Emmerdale has hinted at a return for Kim Tate’s son James as she ordered Graham Foster to track him down tonight (October 12).

Kim (Claire King) left the show in handcuffs in Friday’s scenes, but bowed out with some intriguing parting words for Graham.

Prior to being sent back to prison, Kim instructed Graham to find James – suggesting that he could be making his way to the village in the foreseeable future. But who is he again?

James is the only child Kim had with her former husband Frank Tate. After being born in 1996, James appeared in the show for three years – later leaving with Kim when he was a toddler.

Long-term viewers will know that James’s paternity was initially in doubt as Kim fell pregnant with him when she was having an affair with the late Dave Glover.

When Dave died whilst saving James from a fire, paternity tests showed that Frank was actually the youngster’s father.

James was last seen in 1999 when Kim fled the village in a helicopter in order to avoid being arrested. However, given that Kim did eventually end up in prison regardless, she clearly became estranged from James during that time.

Although Kim is now being forced to carry out the rest of her jail sentence, it’s already been confirmed that she’ll be making a permanent return next year. Could she be joined by James when she comes back to the village?

Teasing James’s return, Claire King – who plays Kim – said: “He’s bound to be young, glamorous, gorgeous – they’re going to bring that kind of character in to replace Ned (Joe) aren’t they?

“He’ll be a good looking young boy. They haven’t spoken for a while so that’s why she’s asked Graham to try and find James.

“There were very few people or things Kim genuinely loved last time – James was one, David [Glover] was another, Seth and her horses. And that was about it. She had total disrespect for anybody else in the whole world, she didn’t care.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
