Emmerdale's Debbie Dingle facing five years in prison for Ross Barton’s acid attack

As the week kicks off, Debbie, played by Charley Webb, is feeling pretty miserable as she sits on her prison bed and considers the future.

She’s pleased when, at her bail hearing, she’s allowed to go home but her good mood doesn’t last long with her brief breaks the bad news that she could be facing a long sentence if she’s found guilty.

It’s just another kick in the teeth for Debbie who is trying to deal with her daughter Sarah’s heart condition as well as nursing a broken heart after being ‘dumped’ by Joe Tate on their wedding day.

Debbie doesn’t know that Joe was actually killed by his old friend Graham Foster on the orders of Kim Tate – who has been thrown back in prison for driving without a licence.

Debbie breaks down in tears as she faces an uncertain future with a jail sentence hanging over her head.

Fans of the ITV soap know that Debbie didn’t intentionally hurt Ross, despite being the person who ordered the attack.

It was actually meant for Joe as revenge for using her as part of his master plan to take down her mum Charity who Joe blamed for killing his dad, Chris Tate.

But while Debbie only ordered local drug dealer Simon McManus to beat Joe up, he decided to use acid and mistakenly doused Ross with it instead of Joe.

And it was only a matter of time before the police came for her after Ross forced a confession out of Simon in dramatic scenes last week.
