Hollyoaks has given fans a not-so-subtle hint that they haven’t seen the last of Joel Dexter following his surprise departure last night (October 15).
Monday’s E4 first look episode saw Joel ride off on his motorbike following the sad break-up of his relationship with Cleo McQueen.
In an emotional letter to Cleo, a reflective Joel explained that they both needed space from each other for a while, giving her a chance to recover from her bulimia relapse.
Joel also revealed that he’d decided to rejoin the priesthood, seemingly closing the door on any chance of them getting back together.
After the scenes aired, Rory Douglas-Speed – who plays Joel – put a jokey goodbye message on Twitter for fans, setting alarm bells ringing that he could have left the show.
Fortunately, Hollyoaks has now replied with a very strong hint that Joel hasn’t really departed for good. But how long will we have to wait to see him back? Not too long, we hope.
Our Hollyoaks spies have told us that we’ll just have to wait and see when Joel returns, but he remains in the opening title sequence in tonight’s episode, which is always a good sign.
Rory has played the role of Joel for two years, taking over from previous actor Andrew Still in the part.
Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
