ADELE has revealed how she reconnected with her father Mark Evans before his death from cancer in May.
The 31-year-old had a complicated relationship with her late dad, who split from her mother Penny Adkins when Adele was just three-years-old.
Mark subsequently returned to his native Wales and was largely absent during the star's childhood.
In the years following, their relationship deteriorated further when her star grew, and by 2011 her contact with him had reached breaking point.
When he gave an interview to a magazine that year, her mother Penny told him, "You shouldn’t have done that", leading to a nearly decade long estrangement.
But the Hometown Glory songstress had a change of heart and revealed that she reconnected with Mark before his passing from cancer at age 57 and even played him her upcoming album.
Speaking in a new interview with Vogue, the Grammy-winning artist explained how her divorce from Simon Konecki helped her "humanise" her late dad.
She shared: "We actually got our peace, again contrary to reports.
"I played him my album just a week before he passed, over Zoom. One thing that definitely happened in my divorce was that it humanised my parents for me. Big time. I went to hell and back!
"And in that I found the peace to forgive him. He was ready to go and he lasted a long time with it. So thank you."
The superstar singer has previously spoken of her fractured relationship with dad Mark.
In early interviews, Adele insisted: “I don’t hate him — he’s my dad.”
But their relationship deteriorated as her career took off internationally, and by 2011 her contact with him had reached breaking point.
When he gave an interview to a magazine that year, her mother Penny told him: “You shouldn’t have done that.”
He later claimed that he and his daughter had made up and shared a drink around the time of her Adele Live tour to support her second album 21. Something she later denied.
In 2013, he revealed he was battling bowel cancer and feared he would never meet his grandson, Angelo — Adele’s son with charity entrepreneur Simon, who she divorced in March.
But Mark went on to claim that her third album, 25, released in 2015, had proved to be a cathartic period in their relationship and that they had patched up their dispute.
He even called the feud a “misunderstanding”.
However Adele countered this in a speech at the 2017 Grammy Awards.
She told the audience: “Thank you to my manager because the comeback, as it were, was completely masterminded by him.
“And you executed it incredibly, and I owe you everything. We’ve been together for ten years, and I love you like you’re my dad. I love you so, so much.
"I don’t love my dad, that’s the thing. That doesn’t mean a lot. I love you like I would love my dad."
