The series, which is going ahead this year but in the new location of Wales, could be “cancelled” if Prime Minister Boris Johnson enforces stricter measures amid the pandemic.

According to reports the series, hosted by Declan Donnelly and Ant McPartlin, could be “scrapped completely” as postponing it “is not an option”.

A source explained: "It has been a huge concern to the casting team as well as producers.

"The possibility of postponing the series and rescheduling to early next year was given due consideration.

They added to Sunday People : "A contingency plan is being put into place but it’s unlikely they will be able to postpone to 2021.

"In the worst-case scenario this year’s series will have to be cancelled."

Filming for the upcoming series is set to the place next month at Gwrych Castle in Abergele, North Wales after travel restrictions made it impossible to film in the usual location of Australia.

Ant and Dec previously revealed that they tried to convince show bosses to film the series in the North East in order for them to be closer to their families.

Ant and Dec, both 44, had appealed to the show’s producers to have this year’s series set in the north, near their hometown of Newcastle upon Tyne, and admitted they “pitched a lot of castles” including Lindisfarne Castle nestled off the north-east coast on Holy Island.

However, the bosses set in Gwrych Castle in Abergele, Wales for this year’s series.

Dec has told The Sun they were excited at the prospect of being closer to their family.
