FOR rising star Nathaniel Curtis, landing a role in the hotly anticipated Russell T Davies drama, It's A Sin was a dream come true.
But that excitement soon turned to "nerves" when it came to the steamy sex scenes.
In the critically acclaimed drama, Curtis played Ash, a resident of the famed Pink Palace who falls in love with his friend and roommate, Ritchie Tozer (Olly Alexander).
Curtis who made his TV debut in Channel 4's It's A Sin revealed filming the steamy sex romps were made even more awkward when he realised the intimacy coordinator was a friend of his.
"I think the most awkward thing was that one of the intimacy coordinators was a very old friend of mine. I turned up to set one day and I was like, 'David, what are you doing?!'," he told RadioTimes.
The actor also opened up about how filming sex scenes was actually not that sexy at all.
"It was cold. It was in the morning. We got there a bit half-asleep, bare bottom, which was an experience I don't think I'll ever forget," he recalled.
"But everyone on set was so patient, and everything was very careful, down to the choreography of the scene. You know, it was like: 'Arm goes here. Leg goes there. You move your head this way'."
Curtis gave credit to his Alexander who turns out a star-making performance in the five part drama for being a great to film the awkward scenes with.
"I don't mind taking my clothes off – that's not really a problem for me, but it was a bit weird," he said.
"I'm incredibly, incredibly lucky in that my scene partner, Olly Alexander, is one of the best people in the world."
Curtis and Alexander are also joined in the cast by Keeley Hawes, Stephen Fry, Neil Patrick Harris, Tracy Ann Oberman, Shaun Dooley, Omari Douglas, Nathaniel Curtis and Lydia West.
A synopsis for the series reads: "Strangers at first, Ritchie and his pals Roscoe and Colin, along with their best friend Jill, find themselves thrown together, and soon share each other’s adventures.
"But a new virus is on the rise, and soon their lives will be tested in ways they never imagined.
"As the decade passes, and they grow up in the shadow of AIDS, they’re determined to live and love more fiercely than ever."
