NBC’s long-running drama Law and Order SVU made its eagerly awaited return to screens after a one-month break. Although fans were pleased to see a new episode, some viewers were left divided.
Law and Order SVU’s previous episode landed on screens in February and left viewers emotional as a man with dementia confessed to murder.
As a result, fans were eagerly anticipating what would be in store for Olivia Benson (played by Mariska Hargitay) and the detectives.
The procedural drama finally made its return on Thursday with The Presence of Absence, however, viewers were unimpressed.
As they watched the case unfold, many took to social media with disappointment.
A letdown @JMshipsEO complained: “I just was expecting more razzle dazzle after this long break #LawAndOrderSVU.”
@patsdumas moaned: “Subpar episode… Sorry… but… #LawandOrderSVU.”
A third viewer @heyitssonya01 added: “Such a strange episode #LawandOrderSVU.”
While @DreadfulxIves18 critisized: “This episode is so cringeeee #LawAndOrderSVU #SVU.” (sic)
Despite the complaints, other viewers disagreed and took to Twitter to praise the episode for raising awareness about dating apps.
@gorjess314 tweeted: “Law and order SVU episode is really eye-opening.”
As @Ashleemn1 shared: “What an amazing episode.”
Ahead of its premiere, CBS released a brief synopsis which read: “An internet dating site becomes the source of terror for a young widow; Muncy struggles with Velasco’s absence.”

Law and Order fans fuming as NBC drama takes month break [REACTION]
The special detectives were called after Zoe Greene (Eden Malyn) became the victim of sexual assault.
Her friend Jenna Scott (Tory Trowbridge) convinced her to join a dating app where she started talking to Klaus.
Zoe became inundated with messages and sexual orders, however, by the following day the friends report the assault to the SVU team.
After they ordered a rape kit, the team discovered the sperm matched Zoe’s late husband, which suggested it belonged to his relative.
His nephew Cooper Davis (Gabriel Syndey Brown) was in town studying but insisted it wasn’t him and revealed he often did sperm donation for money.
The officers were able to track Klaus and when they burst into the room, they discovered Klaus was actually Jenna.
Jenna said she did it all for Zoe and decided to step in after her friend wasn’t getting any matches on the dating app.
As for being forcibly impregnated. Jenna thought Zoe would be happy if she had a baby using Cooper’s sperm.
